Beds, wardrobes and desks are often too large to carry out whole. Moon Movers takes them apart before loading and reassembles every piece at the new address.

Furniture often has to be taken apart before a move — wardrobes, beds and tables are simply too bulky for the truck whole. After transport the crew reassembles everything at the new location. The movers carry proper tools and have enough experience to handle pieces of any complexity without delays.

Wardrobes, bed frames, writing desks, dressers and bookshelves usually have to come apart — they are too bulky for doorways and the truck. Office desks and workstations come apart the same way during an office relocation. Nightstands and small tables often travel whole. The crew checks every piece on site and decides what needs to be taken down.
The standard kit is a power screwdriver, a set of hex keys and a mallet. For more complex constructions the movers carry additional wrenches and flat pry bars. Everything comes with the crew — you do not need to supply tools yourself.
The movers work with furniture of any complexity. IKEA pieces with cam-lock fittings come apart and go back together quickly because the hardware is standardized. The fasteners go into a bag labeled with the item name so nothing gets mixed up.
Mirrors on wardrobe doors are wrapped in stretch film and sealed with packing tape. Glass shelves and stained-glass inserts go into bubble wrap and then into separate boxes marked with a fragile label. The marks tell the crew to load those boxes upright and away from heavy items.
A typical bedroom set — a wardrobe, a bed frame and a desk — takes roughly thirty to forty minutes. The time depends on the number of pieces and whether the furniture has been assembled and disassembled before, because older cam locks tend to sit tighter.
The fold-out mechanism is tied down with cord for the ride so it does not spring open. At the new address the crew removes the cord, bolts the armrests and sides back on, and checks that the mechanism opens and folds properly.
A surveyor can come out to draw up a list of everything that needs to come apart — wardrobes, bed frames, desks, dressers. The list tells the crew what tools and how many hands to bring so there are no surprises on moving day. Ten minutes on a video call is usually enough.
The survey keeps surprises off the truck and out of the schedule
All shelves, drawers and crossbars come out of the wardrobe first. Doors are lifted off the tracks, rails unscrewed carefully — they bend easily. The frame comes apart last: top panel, sides and back wall detach from the base. Every bolt goes into a labeled bag.
Mirrors are wrapped in stretch film and taped over. Each disassembled panel goes into bubble wrap with the edges taped down. Leather upholstery gets an extra layer of soft cloth to prevent scratches, especially on a long ride. Everything is loaded flat so nothing shifts.
After transport the crew unpacks the panels and rebuilds each piece using the labeled hardware bags. A wardrobe, two dressers, a desk and a bed frame can go back together in under an hour. The movers check every door, drawer and fold-out mechanism before they leave.
Reach Moon Movers for professional furniture disassembly and assembly across Chicago. Every job accounts for the fastener types and the material each piece is made from — particleboard, solid wood and metal frames each call for a different approach.
Mistakes are not acceptable because they shorten the furniture's lifespan. Pieces that have already been taken apart and reassembled several times are especially tricky to work with.
