A grand piano weighs anywhere from 500 to over 1,200 pounds. The cast-iron frame inside holds string tension measured in tons. Disassembly: What Comes Off and What Stays
A grand piano is moved disassembled. The sequence matters. First, the lyre (the pedal assembly) is detached. Then the top lid and the music desk come off, followed by the fallboard — the hinged cover over the keys. Each piece is wrapped and set aside. Only after the case is wrapped does the crew remove the first leg — the one to the left of the keyboard. Upper floor, stairs only

Loading, Securing, and the Drive
The piano rolls up the truck ramp on the skid board and is positioned against the front wall of the cargo area, standing on its flat side (the bottom of the case). Ratchet straps anchor it to the truck's tie-down rails — never bungee cords, never rope. The instrument should not shift by even a centimeter during braking or turns.
The drive itself is unremarkable if the loading was done correctly. Avoid potholes where possible, keep speed moderate, and skip the expressway if a surface-street route with smoother pavement is available. Unloading, Reassembly, and Placement
